President William Ruto has appointed Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Nyanza Regional Director Jane Gatakaa Njage to represent the teachers’ employer in the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) as a Commissioner.
Njage who hails from Embu County was among the six commissioners who were sworn last week the members of SRC for six years. The news chairperson Sammy Chepkwony (pictured below) who succeeded Lyn Mengich was also sworn in.
She was nominated by the President to the Commission in November last year and vetted in the same month by National Assembly Departmental Committee which is chaired by Erick Muchangi, the MP for Runyenjes.

Commissioners include Maj Gen (Rtd) Martin Kizito who will represent the Defense Council.

Mohammed Aden will represent County governments, Leonid Ashindu (Association of Professional Societies in East Africa) Dr Gilda Odera (Federation of Kenya Employers) and Dr Geoffrey Apollo will represent Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU).
The swearing in ceremony took place on 20 January 2025, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, and it was administered by the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, Winfridah Mokaya, in the presence of the Chief Justice, Martha Koome.
During the event, Chepkwony reaffirmed SRC’s commitment to fostering fair and sustainable wage policies that align with Kenya’s economic realities, while ensuring public service efficiency and enhanced stakeholder collaboration and mutual cooperation.
SCR sets and regularly review the remuneration and benefits of all State officers; and advise the national and county governments on the remuneration and benefits of all other public officers.
The SRC boss and commissioners will serve for six years
