The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Nyanza has replaced teachers who had earlier been transferred to different stations countrywide.

A total of 154 primary and 32 secondary teachers who were transferred indicated various reasons for transfer including; joining spouses, overstaying in the same work place, aging of parents, self-medical issues, insecurity, domestic violence and medical condition of their children.

TSC Nyanza Regional Director Stephen Yida Ajanga indicated that the teachers applied for the transfers in the year 2021 and 2022.

All the transferred teachers have already been replaced with primary school teachers being replaced during recruitment of lot 6539/JULY/2022 while secondary teachers were replaced during recruitment of lot 4000/JULY/2022.

TSC advertised 5,000 teaching vacancies in July this year to support the government policy on 100 percent transition of learners from primary to secondary schools and to reduce the perennial teacher shortage.

On April this year, TSC reviewed rules for eligibility of teachers’ transfers.

The TSC circular dated April 4th 2022 stated that teachers who had been employed for at least three (3) years since first appointment were eligible for transfers, the exception being for teachers in North Eastern who were to serve for five years before being eligibility.

Previously, teachers were required to have served for a period of at least five years in their current stations before being eligible for transfer.

The new transfer policy now considers family matters and transfer of couples making it possible for families to coexist unlike previously where married teachers were transferred to far-flung stations making family reunions only possible during the holidays.

Teachers with proven cases of terminal illness and those who are 56 years and above were exempted from transfers out of their current sub county of work which was the case before.
