The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has made replacements on some retiring county directors across the country, Education News has learnt.

Some of those affected include James Okong’o who has been the Wajir County boss and his West Pokot counterpart, Francis Rotino Lotam.

In Wajir, TSC has named his deputy, Ali Yusuff Ahmed as his replacement on an interim basis. Ali, who has been the Deputy Director (DD) to Okong’o till his recent retirement, has also been serving as the Sub-County Director (SCD) in charge of Wajir Central.

In West Pokot, TSC has named Lotam’s deputy, Joseph Musyoka as the replacement for the time being as the employer decides on who deserves the substantive appointment. Musyoka was recently deployed to West Pokot from Bungoma County where he was the SCD in charge of the newly-created Kimaeti Sub-county in the region.

He replaced Jayne Nyakoe who was dispatched to Bungoma County to take over as the DD.

Education News has learnt that Lotam was last month sent on leave pending his retirement sometime later this year.

According to a senior officer at the Commission’s headquarters, those named to take over from the exiting directors will only serve on temporary basis pending substantive appointments to the positions.

“This is not to say those picked to serve on temporary basis will not be considered for substantive appointments. They are eligible for the promotions as long as they qualify for the jobs. It all depends on the decisions of the employer,” said the source.

The source further hinted at more changes across the country to replace the directors who will be retiring in due course stating that most of those changes will be on temporary basis.

It is understood the first round of interviews for the posts were completed  earlier and the second round of the exercise is currently underway at the Commission.
