The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has opened its portal to applicants from primary schools who wish to teach in Junior Secondary School (JSS).
In an advert placed in its official social media sites, the commission has set March 8, 2024 as the deadline for application, encouraging only teachers serving under permanent and pensionable (P&P) terms in public primary schools who meet requisite qualifications to apply.
Last year, the commission deployed a total of 10,733 teachers with higher qualifications of Diplomas and Degrees, and who met the required threshold to teach in JSS, converting them to new grades. Those in grades B5 and C1 were automatically promoted to C2, which is the entry grade for graduate teachers, and those already in grades beyond C2 progressed according to the Career Progression Guidelines (CPG).
For a teacher to be deployed to JSS, they must have at least attained a mean grade of C+ in KCSE.
Further, the teacher should at least have a grade C+ in KCSE in two teaching subjects or the equivalent, and at least 8 units in each of the two teaching subjects.
