TSC gazettes deregistration of Sossion as a teacher

Teachers Service Commission Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia has de registered Wilson Sossion as a teacher.

The CEO signed a gazette notice that stated ” Pursuit to section 30 of the TSC act, the Teachers Service Commission has removed the name of Wilson Sossion from the register of teachers,”

Ms Macharia said under the law, Mr Sossion cannot engage in teaching in any school.

The TSC issued the notice of deregistration to Sossion in July and gave him 90 days to appeal the decision with the aim of forcing him to withdraw from his position as the Secretary General of KNUT.

They wrote him a letter accusing him of accepting nomination as an Member of Parliament by Orange Democratic Party in 2017 and has allegedly been inciting teachers against the new curriculum in eleven centres.

To his defense, Sossion said that under article 34(A) of the Labour Relations Act the termination of his contract did not affect his rights as a Union Official and the deregistration as a teacher changes nothing.

KNUT in a twitter statement addressed its members and wrote ” The notice is illegal as the matter is active in court. It is also discriminative as there are other Union members serving members of parliament”  the tweet read.
