As the country continue adjusting to the new Competency Based Curriculum (CBC), Nzaui sub-county Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Director Jacob Leleshep has assured that they are on the right track in terms of Junior Secondary School (JSS) staffing.
Out of 123 primary schools in the sub-county, 114 qualified to host JSS. There also were 34 teachers deployed from primary schools to JSS.
“Every JSS class is well taken care of. There are already trained teachers equiped with CBC knowledge ready to teach,” Leleshep.
Speaking in his office, he noted that there are 140 newly recruited JSS teachers where 41 are permanent and pensionable and 99 interns.
In terms of delocalization, teachers who moved back to their counties from Nzaui are 75 yet those who came back to Nzaui subcounty from other counties are 72 thus striking a balance.
The sub-county has equally been performing well. Last year, there were 4,416 candidates in primary schools with 2,191 boys and 2,225 girls who had a mean grade of 256.
The sub-county has 56 secondary schools and in the last year’s KCSE there were 3,753 candidates where boys were 1,694 and 2,059 girls.
“Our transition rate was 96 per cent as at February this year. We do not blink am eye here when it comes to joining form one to ensure 100 per cent transition as per the governments directive,” director.
