TSC Director: Deputy principals not allowed to man exam centres

Kenyenya Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Sub County Director Shem Odhiambo has cautioned secondary school principals against delegating their role of manning examinations centres to their deputies.

Speaking to examination centre managers, supervisors and invigilators at Magena Secondary school, the Director said that it was only the principals who were designated to manage the centers.

“We do not have any position for deputy examination centre managers. If that position is there then it might come later after you have applied for it,” he said.

He noted that the sub county has more than 40 secondary schools managed by their respective principals and more than 80 appointed invigilators.

Odhiambo was responding to a reaction from a principal who sought to know if their deputies will be given any allowances if they remained in schools during the examination period to reinforce the administrative services.

Saying that the region is prone to sudden cold-related maladies during this short rains season, the principals sought to be provided with nurses and ambulances on stand-by in the schools in the event of any incident.

Kenyenya Deputy County Commissioner Henry Rotich assured the principals that sufficient security had been put in place.

He asked the teachers to use their administrative skills to arrest any emergency cases like teenage births during the examinations.

“My office has provided a hotline that will cater for emergencies during the examination period,” he assured.

Rotich asked parents to be wary of individuals out to con them by selling to them fake examination papers.

“We know there are conmen are out to cheat innocent parents about examinations but I urge you to report such people to my office for legal action,” he said.

The area Director of Education George Ouma thanked all teachers for posting desirable examination results in 2021 national examinations and asked them to maintain the same spirit in the forthcoming examinations.

He thanked the area KESSHA fraternity led by Chairman David Osoro for steering their Schools into peaceful coexistence by involving themselves in healthy competitions in both academics and extra-curriculum activities.

Ouma appealed to owners of businesses and establishments near schools to observe silence during the entire examination period.

His sentiments were echoed by Kisii County KUPPET Executive Secretary Joseph Abincha who also expressed optimism that the candidates will post impressive examination results.

The Unionist further cautioned the candidates against indulging themselves in wayward activities that may deter their focus.
