The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has deregistered five teachers following disciplinary proceedings, formally removing them from the teaching roll in a move aimed at safeguarding professional standards.

In a Gazette notice dated January 30, 2026, Acting Chief Executive Officer Eveleen Mitei confirmed that the deregistration took effect on December 29, 2025. The affected teachers are Samuel Mwangi, Sammy Ongeche, Oduor Collins, Rop Linus Cheruiyot, and Symon Kipleting.

The Commission stressed that once a teacher’s name is deleted from the register, reinstatement can only occur through its directive.

“A teacher whose name has been removed from the register shall cease to be a teacher for purposes of this Act with effect from the date of such removal,” the notice stated.

TSC further warned that teaching without registration, or employing an unregistered teacher, is a criminal offence. Offenders risk a fine of not less than Kshs 100,000, imprisonment for up to two years, or both. The deregistration underscores TSC’s mandate to enforce discipline and protect the integrity of the teaching profession.

Schools and institutions are also reminded to strictly adhere to the legal requirement of employing only registered teachers.
