The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has convened a broad team of education stakeholders to plan for World Teachers’ Day (WTD) 2025.

WTD will be celebrated on Sunday, October 5, 2025, under the theme “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession.”

A memo dated September 30, 2025, shows that more than 40 officials have been invited to a planning meeting on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at TSC Headquarters in Nairobi.

The meeting will finalise arrangements for the national celebrations to be held at Kasarani Stadium, where President William Ruto is expected to preside.

The invitees include top officials from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), such as Ibrahim Mumin (Director, Administration & Services), Gabriel Mathenge (Director, Operations), Dr Reuben Nthamburi (Director, Teacher Development and Management), and Ms Antonina Lentoijoni (Director, Staffing).

Other senior officers from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) who were invited are Boniface Okumu, Dr Lilian Mwangi,  Susan Mwangi,  George Odawo, Mr Alex Cheruiyot, Mollet Sango,  Idris Aden, Aileen Ntinyari,  Monica Kinuthia,  Addah Memoh,  Morgan Buyiekha, Pauline Mumbi,  Samwel Marwa, Joyce Mukuha,  George M. Gichonjo, Lucy Mugambi, Florence Kamama, Miriam Sogo, Moses Mutinda, and Mark Omoding.

Teachers’ unions are well represented, with Stephen Kimotho and Mr Paul Maingi from the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), Idris Aden from the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), and Peter Mbugua from the Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers (KUSNET).

Also on the list are Grace Wanjiru from the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE).

The size and diversity of the planning committee reflect the collaborative spirit of this year’s global theme. This committee represents every corner of the education sector — from unions and administrators to curriculum experts and private partners. Preparing for World Teachers’ Day is a national responsibility, not just a TSC task,” said one official.

World Teachers’ Day was observed in 1994. It commemorates the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation on the Status of Teachers, which aims to establish international standards for teachers’ rights, responsibilities, and working conditions.
