TSC awards 272 teachers for stellar performance in Music, Drama Festivals

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has awarded 272 teachers both in basic learning institutions and Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) for their outstanding performance in drama and music festivals held early this year.

The teachers were feted during the 2023 World Teachers’ Day celebrations at the Kenya School of Government (KSG) on October 5, 2023 where 219 teachers were awarded for their exemplary performance in music festivals from both primary and secondary schools countrywide, which also saw 17 tutors from TTCs being awarded.

In the Drama Festivals, a total of 16 teachers in primary and 6 in secondary schools, 4 in colleges (TTCs), 10 in Special Needs Educational institutions were too awarded by their employer.

The National Drama and Music Festivals held at the Shimo la Tewa High School in Mombasa County between April 20 and April 30 this year saw Joytown Secondary School win the best creative cultural dance in the special needs category and Friends School Kamusinga’s play titled ‘The Walls of Jericho’ written and directed by famous X (formerly Twitter) influencer Eric Amunga (alias Amerix) ranked the second best creative play.

The Kenya Music Festivals took place at the Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) in Nyeri County between August 12 and August 23 this year where State House Nakuru hosted the winners of the 95th Festival.

Little Friends Academy from Naivasha was the star of this year’s event after scooping the most trophies across various categories.

Other winners included Moi Girls Nairobi Secondary School which emerged top in the brand new category ‘Zilizovuma’ with an adaptation and arrangement of a Sauti Sol number.

Pangani Girls won in the Arabic Choral verse class as well as picking accolades in the German Choral verse. Mbale High School won in the highly contested ‘Zilizopendwa’ from the Rest of Africa’s secular class among others.
