Teachers Service Commission (TSC) recruitment in Kuria was yesterday disrupted as tribalism took toll on the process after an MCA from the region incited the locals.
In a video that went viral and seen by the Education News, Migori leader was seen inciting applicants from his community against TSC employing candidates from other communities.
The exercise turned violent when some of the community members stormed interview venues demanding only Kuria community applicants to remain for the interview.
The local politicians later stormed the venue and demanded for the recruitment list which they tore into pieces.
Several applicants were turned away for being ethnically unfit for the advertised jobs.
Speaking to Education News, one of the non-local teachers said they were frog-matched from the venue.
One of the applicants Mr. Yusuf Keriango said he was denied an opportunity because he is married to a non-local.
He blamed the TSC for shortlisting them in far flung areas without taking into consideration the hostility of some communities.
Applicants from the Kuria community cited that they are marginalized and they could not share the limited vacancies with their counterparts from other regions.
The County Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Director Mrs. Beatrice Lukalu, however, affirmed that the matter will be solved.
