Trial of man accused of breaking into Mwaani Girls starts

The trial of a man accused of breaking in Mwaani girls high school and sexually assaulting a student started at Makueni law court.

The 29 -year–old Jackson Keli Mutuku  and a neighbor to the school was also accused of damaging school property.

The court heard that Mutuku used a ladder to go through the two walls surrounding the girls’ dormitory. He then jumped over the first iron sheet wall, cut a chain link and sneaked into the girls’ dorm.

The accused allegedly committed the offences on October 19 last year at night. The incident happened after the form fours resumed schools after Covid-19 long break.

Appearing before magistrate George Sagelo, Mutuku pleaded not guilty to the charges. 

Witnesses among them three police officers testified against him. Other witnesses in the case where students and workers.

A detective, Robin Katambani who is investigating the case told the court that the accused used a wooden ladder to jump into the school compound.

The girls had earlier on complained of a ‘ghost’ in a wig and ladies’ clothes that had attempted to assault them sexually at night.

“He cut the chain link fence around the dormitories, tiptoed then jumped through a window to the dorm,” Katambani told the court.

However, it was not a lucky day for the accused as the student he was targeting raised  the alarm causing the accused to flee. in the darkness.

Unknown to the accused, there were CCTV cameras installed in the school. Detectives used footage to nab the suspect.

The case was adjourned to March 24 when the police man analysing the CCTV footage is supposed to testify before the court.

However, the accused failed to raise a bond of Sh 200,000 and was taken to Makueni GK prison remand.
