Muungano Secondary School in Trans Nzoia County has posted a notable improvement in academic performance, marking a major turnaround attributed to targeted interventions and strong support from the county education leadership.
In the previous year, the school recorded a low mean score of 1.84, with 48 candidates scoring grade E results that raised concern among education stakeholders in the county. The latest examination results, however, show a significant recovery, with the school improving to a mean score of 3.12 and reducing the number of grade E candidates to just one.
Teachers at the institution say the improvement is the result of intensified academic supervision, renewed teacher commitment and structured support from the county government. They noted that consistent follow-up, learner mentorship and accountability measures have helped stabilise performance and restore confidence among students.
The turnaround has been credited to the county administration, with Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya praised for prioritising education as a key development pillar. Educators say his administration created an enabling environment that allowed struggling schools to receive focused support.

Special commendation has also gone to the County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Education, Janerose Mutama, whose hands-on leadership has been credited with driving reforms at the grassroots. Teachers say the CEC’s background in the profession has strengthened engagement with schools, reinforcing the belief that effective leadership can transform learning outcomes.
Education analysts say the Muungano Secondary School experience demonstrates the importance of responsive county leadership and collaboration between teachers, administrators and policymakers.
As the school looks ahead, stakeholders say the focus will be on sustaining the gains and steadily improving performance. The results, they add, offer renewed hope and serve as proof that when leaders invest in education, meaningful change follows.
