Japata Secondary School in Endebess, Trans Nzoia County was yesterday struck with crisis after strong winds blew off roofs of several classrooms, leaving students stranded and learning disrupted.
According to the report, the strong winds came after heavy rainfalls pour the area.
The school principal, Michael Kipkemboi Tuwei, attributes the extensive damage to the lack of wind arrestors and the sparse tree cover in the area, which is situated within an Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) farm.
He added that the destruction of books and educational materials in the library is a significant blow to the school’s academic programmes, and the absence of functional toilets poses a serious health risk to the students and staff. “The state is pathetic,” Tuwei lamented, appealing for help to address the infrastructure deficit. “Students are stranded, and teachers and support staff have nowhere to ease themselves. It’s a dire situation that requires urgent attention.”

He is calling on the government and well-wishers to provide assistance to help restore the school to its former state. “We need support with rebuilding the classrooms, library, and toilets, as well as providing alternative learning arrangements for our students,” he said.
He added that the school is working to find temporary solutions, but a more permanent fix is needed to ensure the students can continue their education without further disruption.
The incident has raised questions about the government’s response to such incidents and its commitment to providing quality education infrastructure in the region. As the school community waits for support, students are left wondering what the future holds for their education.
