The Director of Technical Education in Trans Nzoia County, Eliud Lusweti, has urged the government and education stakeholders to increase investment in technical and vocational education as a key solution to the growing problem of youth unemployment in Kenya.

Speaking during the annual stakeholders’ meeting at Anwai Vocational Training Institute in Kitale, Lusweti emphasized the need for a shift in focus from white-collar job expectations to skill-based employment.

He pointed out that empowering youth with practical and technical skills would not only reduce reliance on government jobs but also help the country avoid frequent youth-led demonstrations driven by frustration and joblessness.

“To avert the rising tide of protests and frustrations among our young people, we must equip them with relevant technical skills that can enable them to create employment for themselves,” said Lusweti.

Echoing Lusweti’s sentiments, Tuwan Ward Representative Francis Obingo Were reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to supporting technical training.

He stated that the leadership of Trans Nzoia County is keen on funding vocational institutions to ensure more young people gain practical skills.

“Technical education is the future. Not only does it offer our youth an opportunity to become self-reliant, but it also opens doors to employment in international markets that are increasingly seeking skilled labor from Africa,” said Hon. Were. “

The event brought together education officials, county leaders, and representatives from vocational training institutions across the region.
