Trans Nzoia County teachers have expressed fear for their lives and invasion of schools by goons following the murder of teacher-cum-blogger at the hands of police in Nairobi.
In a statement released by the Kitale teachers, drawn from both primary and secondary schools, said the death of Ojwang’ was a manifestation of the looming danger hanging over the heads of teachers for speaking their minds on various issues affecting the nation through social media.
Led by Juliana Miheso, the group noted that the late teacher had met a cruel death for having participated in the national dialogue on ills affecting society through social media.
The group said the heinous death of Ojwang had created fear and despondency within the teaching fraternity and had dimmed the aspirations of the educators to continue commenting on national interests.

“As teachers bestowed with the role of instilling morals in our children, including those of policemen and women, we confront this blatant affront to peace and demand immediate justice for the affected family. We find this abhorrent act in this contemporary digital age where each person has the right to communication,” part of the statement reads.
Miheso, who is vying for the Trans Nzoia Kuppet Vice-Chair position in the forthcoming 2026 AGM, led the delegation in describing Ojwang as a “Commissioner of knowledge” gone to waste too soon.
“Teachers as the mirror of the society have the right to give opinion on state of the country as they perceive since they have no other alternative platforms to express themselves other than through the recognized social media”, the statement further said adding that the murder of the youthful and parent had only demeaned the noble teaching profession.

As it stands, the group noted, no teacher was now willing to engage students in the subject of human rights after learners challenged why the government was defaulting on the matter, as established in the country’s education curriculum.
“These people (police) may not know what being a teacher entails and what they go through to make the best out of the children. We are pained by this beastly and cowardly act that has raised doubts about safety both at school and at home,” the teachers said.
They vowed not to relent until justice is dispensed against the killer(s) of Ojwang. They appealed to the DIG Eluid Lagat to come up in the open and transparently reveal his name after being named adversely and severely in the murder.
