In Chepchoina ward in Trans Nzoia County, MCA Peter Chakali has proposed introducing evening classes for elderly community members at Amani Comprehensive School, emphasising the numerous benefits of education for older adults.
Addressing the school’s Annual General Meeting, Chakali stressed that education is a lifelong process and that it’s never too late to learn.
“Education empowers individuals, regardless of age, and I’m convinced that our elderly community members can greatly benefit from evening classes,” Chakali said.
He urged the school administration to assign a teacher to help these individuals gain basic education, citing the importance of literacy and numeracy skills in everyday life.
Chakali noted that education can improve the elderly’s ability to manage their finances, health, and social interactions, ultimately enhancing their overall well-being.

“It’s not just about reading and writing; it’s about gaining confidence, staying engaged, and contributing to the community,” he added.
The parents and community members appreciated Hon. Chakali’s suggestion, acknowledging the value of education for all ages.
The school’s efforts to promote education and community development were lauded, with attendees pledging to support the initiative.

“I will talk with the governor in order to hatch a way to support the programme which eventually will see those who didn’t undergo formal education and are still thirsty for the same to enrol for evening classes, ” Chakali, who’s also the chairperson for lands in the county Assembly, said.
The proposed evening classes are expected to provide a unique opportunity for elderly community members to pursue their educational aspirations, improve their lives, and serve as role models for younger generations.
