Trans Nzoia Education CEC launches foundation to support boy child

Trans Nzoia County Executive Committee, CEC Member for Education Janerose Nasimiyu Mutama has unveiled, Janerose Mutama Foundation with a mission to support boy child from the vulnerable families with both education and psychosocial needs.

Speaking during the launch at the Kitale Members’ Golf Club, Mutama said that the boy child has been sidelined at the expense of girl child empowerment, leaving them vulnerable and neglected for life challenges within the society in all various stages of the upkeep of a child.

She however, added that the foundation emphasizing on the boy child from vulnerable families will also help girls to create an equal treatment platform for both genders.

The launch saw over 60 boys and girls from day secondary schools within Kitale Municipality join to celebrate the move which will create a new platform for the help of the needy boys.

The project dubbed as Dignity Pack Drive is aimed at supporting school children from poor and other disadvantaged families pursue education and future life.

As a professional teacher, Mutama noted that she had come to the realization that the gap between the boy and girl had to be bridged and balanced as both sides face the challenges of exiting the school towards a new dispensation for self-reliance.

During the inauguration, the students received sanitary towels, boxers and writing materials and equipment, which the sponsor said would assist them to prepare for the annual exams and other academic assignments.

The CEC members explained she had decided to start the foundation after realizing that apart from the bursaries being issued to needy students, they also required support to improve their health, education, sanitation and nutrition.

“We chose to support the boy as well as the girl child as a way of reaping back to the community and assist the vulnerable to also attain education. We discovered that school fees were not only the problem but personal effects of the students mattered a lot.” She said.
