Train more science, sports teachers for Grade 10, principal tells Govt

The Principal of Nyamagwa SDA Secondary school, Nelson Anyona has urged the government to employ and train more science and sports teachers in readiness for the Grade 10 transition.

He said that the system is practical oriented, hence the need for more teachers on science and the newly sports areas to enable heads of schools to manage their institutions successfully.

“The system required intensive practical approaches in teaching and more student – teacher contact hours and this calls for motivated teacher for effective curriculum packaging to the learner,” he said.

The principal was speaking to parents, teachers and students at his school during the sensitization on the readiness to accommodate Grade 10 students into the secondary school, assured parents that his school has prepared enough classrooms, laboratories and workshops to accommodate students according to their choice on subject study pathways.

He also praised Competency Based Curriculum saying that it is more child centered and involves parents in zone studies rather than the defunct 8 .4.4 system that alienated parents from their children’s learning.

“This system is good because it involves parents who with children parents in some studies that require their participation and their strengthening family ties.” He said.

Anyona asked parents to be aware of their children’s hidden characters that only surface at school but when they go home they pretend to be innocent.

The school head also acknowledged the use of drugs in most schools and accused some parents of knowing that their children use the stuff but they do not tell teachers for joint correction of the learners.

He asked students to embrace self-control and avoid bad company that lure them into the use of drugs and drinking of beer that end up ruining their lives
