The Masinde Muliro Stadium came alive on Thursday as some of Western Kenya’s top secondary school football powerhouses kicked off the two-day Nastic Talent Search Program, a new initiative aimed at identifying and nurturing young football talent from the region.

The tournament brought together four renowned institutions — former East Africa and national championships St. Anthony’s Boys Kitale, Kibabii Boys, Vihiga Boys, and Teremi Boys — all celebrated for their strong sporting traditions and consistent performance in national school games.

The event opened with teams arriving at the venue early in the morning, setting the tone for a day full of excitement and competition.

In the opening match, St. Anthony’s Boys faced Kibabi Boys, followed by Vihiga Boys locking horns with Teremi Boys. Later fixtures saw the schools switching opponents as scouts and coaches keenly watched every move on the pitch.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, the organizers said the Nastic Talent Search Program seeks to provide a structured pathway for students with outstanding football skills to transition to professional levels.

“We want to give young players a platform to be seen and supported by clubs, scouts, and technical experts,” one of the coordinators noted.

The matches continue into today with the final round featuring St. Anthony’s Boys against Vihiga Boys, and Teremi Boys taking on Kibabi Boys in the morning sessions.

The climax of the event will be a thrilling exhibition match at 2:00 PM between the All Stars Select Team and Bungoma United, followed by a colorful closing ceremony.

For the students, the tournament is more than a competition — it’s an opportunity to showcase discipline, teamwork, and ambition.

With scouts from local clubs and sports academies in attendance, the Nastic Talent Search Program is fast earning a reputation as a stepping stone for Kenya’s next generation of football stars.
