Top Western, Rift schools grace region’s open volleyball tournament

Top schools in Western and Rift Valley regions are gracing the Arthur Odera Open Volleyball tournament that kicked off at Malaba Stadium on Saturday.

National girls volleyball champions, Kesogon High from Rift Valley who beat Kwathanze 3-1 in the finals last year to clinch their maiden national title, are in Pool A pitted against Amus College from Uganda and Mwira from Western.

Twenty-one time national champions Lugulu from Western are in pool C with Chester College from Rift Valley and Aluor from Nyanza. Lugulu, which last won the national and East African titles in 2009, will use the tournament to revive their lost glory as they will face top-class teams, including champions Kesogon.

Bumbe Technical Training Institute (TTI), Butere Girls and Bishop Sulumet are in pool B with pool D pitting Sikri College, Lugulu B and St. John’s RC Savannah Secondary from Western.

In the boys category, East African secondary schools champions Cheptil Boys and national secondary schools runners-up Andersen High, both from Rift Valley are in pool A which also includes Amus College (Uganda) and Mwira.

Two-time East African champions Malava Boys and national schools bronze medalists Namwela High from Western are in pool D with Bumbe and Cheptil B.

Pool B is pitting Sikri Technical and Vocational College for the blind and deaf from Nyanza, Katakwa, Apokor and Yalusi (Western), while pool C will encompass Chester College (Rift Valley), Buhuyi, Butula and Malava B.
