Oscar Owino, one of the top performers at Kakamega High School who scored a plain A of 81 points has said that he is elated after scoring impressive results despite failing to meet his expectation in his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).

“I was so disappointed four years ago when I scored 389 marks in the KCPE examinations because my expectation was to garner over 400 marks but my Mother encouraged me when she brought me here at Kakamega high school in form one,” said Oscar Owino.

Owino was among of the eight students who scored A plain at Kakamega High school in the recently announced Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.

The soft spoken boy who exhibited a lot of humility attributed his success to hard work, support from the teachers as well as fellow students, encouragement and prayers of her Mother and above all, God’s guidance.

“From the very first day when I joined form one here, I purposed to attain my ultimate goal, which was to score an A plain and regardless that I was a mono I set my focus the goal. Things were not easy for me at the start but I picked up well when I entered form two up to date.” Owino stated

Owino said he wants to study medicine and become a Neurosurgeon in future.

“It’s unbelievable but at last I have achieved my objective of scoring an A Plain of 81 points and I really thank God for that. My dream is to study medicine and specialize in Neurosurgeon either in the United Kingdom or back here in Nairobi University,” Owino excitedly said.

He said her Mother Consolata Achieng was a source of encouragement throughout his four year course in high school.

“My mother always told me that no situation was permanent and there was always room for improvement and that is why my performance always went up. I also never wasted time, i always woke up at 3:00am and slept past midnight just to make sure I attained the best results,” he said

He appreciated the teachers who spared most of their time with them in class to make sure they covered the syllabus and went through all the revisions.

“I would like to appreciate all my teachers who were a great source of inspiration and support for me. But I cannot fail to mention Madam Beverlyn Mutonyi my class teacher who always kept in touch with us and our parents just to make sure we got all the help we needed,” he said.

His overjoyed Mother was very grateful to God and the teachers for the results saying his Son is respectful and hardworking even at home.

She wished him all the best as he pursues his dream of becoming a Neurosurgeon.
