Three girls from St Monica Girls’ in Kitale got serious burn injuries after one of the school’s cooks poured hot water on them.

It is stated that the Form One girls had gone to inquire for hot water to prepare breakfast.

Vincent Juma, the school cook who did the heinous act to the girls, is said to have mocked the girls before proceeding to splash hot water to them.

The three were rushed to Kitale County Referral Hospital for medication after their screams caught the school’s attention.

Reports from the hospital indicate that one of the girls had 8% burns on the right leg, arm and face, while another one had burns on her legs and hands and the last one had injuries on both legs.

The girl who had obtained serious burns on right leg, arm and face had to be transferred to Kiminini Cottage Hospital for further medication.

Some of the students who were interviewed confirmed the incident but claimed that they were warned over exposing further details concerning the issue.

“I have confirmed that the incident occurred and actions have been installed to handle the issue. The matter has been reported to the police for further investigations,” said the chairman of the school’s Board of Management (BOM) Anthony Crowley.

Kitale County Director of Education Luke Chebet while warning those who endanger the lives of students, urged school heads to be careful when recruiting members of staff in different positions.

“Disciplinary measures are going to be put in place against heads of public schools who cover up criminal offences committed by the staff to students,” he added.

Mary Wesonga, the Police Commander, promised to work on the issue and ensure justice is served.
