Three schools situated in the slum areas of Kericho town will each benefit from Ksh.1.2 million in funding courtesy of the World Bank and other donors.

The Projects Coordinator at the County Education Office Mr. Moses Okea, while speaking to Education News in his office, said the funding will be done through the Kenya Primary Equity in Education Learning Programme (KPEELP).

“In Kericho, the programme targets three Primary schools which are based in the main slums of Kericho Sub County.

These schools are St. Patricks Primary School located in Majengo slums, Kericho Township Primary School located in Nyagacho slums and Matobo Primary which is found in Mjini slums,” he added.

The coordinator said throughout the 5 year period each school will be funded to the tune of Ksh. 1.2 million and this will be done only after each school has developed their School Improvement Plan (SIPS) Proposals.

In preparation, he said at the moment the three school’s Boards of Management have been taken through SIPS proposal development, which has already been approved at the Sub County level by the Sub County Director of Education.

He added that the SIPS proposal has further been sent to the Ministry of Education headquarters for further verification, awaiting funding.

The proposals are mainly geared towards construction materials, revision books and other learning materials.

It also concentrates on school infrastructure improvement and curriculum implementation, school management and accountability and also environmental management such as tree planting.
