Three KCSE candidates in Nyamira and two principals arrested over cheating claims

Three KCSE candidates and two principals have been arrested today in Nyamira County over alleged exam malpractice.

The principals from Nyamira Boys and Sironga Girls, Charles Onyari and Eva Odhiambo respectively, were also suspended from their centres as examination managers.

The DCI led by Paul Makonge reported that two boys had the Mathematics paper on Wednesday in the classroom and one girl had it in the toilet at Sironga Girls.

The suspects were taken to Nyamira Police Station where they recorded statements and were released on a bond of Ksh10,000 each.

Following the arrest, Nyamira South Sub-county Commissioner Florence Obunga reminded invigilators not to carry any mobile phones or unauthorized materials to the examination rooms.

“You should conduct serious search and scrutiny on every candidate before the entered the examination rooms in order to avoid sneaking of any foreign material into the rooms,” she stressed.

The arrest of the two principals from Nyamira comes a short time after their colleague from Gekomoni Secondary was school was arrested over alleged possession of Home Science examination Paper last week before the examinations started.

Nyamira County Director of education Joshua Kaaga confirmed arrest of the suspects but declined to give more details because the matter was with the police.

He further cautioned teachers from involving themselves in examination irregularities because it would jeopardize their employment be as it is illegal.
