Former tutors who had been appointed as Migori County Executive Committee Members (CECM) are among the six CECMs who took oath of office today.
The three had appeared before the county assembly vetting committee on October 18th and had been confirmed for various offices.
The nominees include the immediate retired principal of St Joseph School Rapogi Mourice Otunga as CECM Finance, KNUT Migori branch Executive Secretary Caleb Oduor Opondi as CECM Public Service & Management and immediate retired Principal of Kuja Deaf Secondary School Julius Awuor Nyerere as CECM Health.

Speaking during the swearing in ceremony, Governor Dr Ochilo Ayacko George noted that since the economic times have changed and parents are struggling to pay fees, the county government will embark on projects that will help relieve parents off the burden of paying fees.

He went on to add that the disbursements will be easy as CECM Education, Gender, Youth, Sports and Social Services Dr. Mogesi Beaty Samburu has already taken oath of office.
“It’s fortunate that the assembly has approved the supplementary budget which will help us perform most of our duties,” he said, further directing the CECM Education that her first assignment in office should be to plan on how these projects should be undertaken.

He noted that corruption would be a thing of the past and told the CECMs to always avail themselves before the members of county assembly and explain how money is spent within their respective dockets as the MCAs are the eyes of the electorates by virtue of elections.
“Let us focus on serving the people who put us into office. I therefore call on all elected and appointed leaders to come together so that we work as a team in ensuring we achieve the people’s development expectations,” added the county chief.

Ochilo also ordered the for the termination of employment for county employees not qualified for the positions they’re currently holding.
Deputy Governor Dr. Joseph Mahiri urged the leaders to serve the people of Migori County without discrimination and to uphold integrity.
“The county has people from different tribes who must feel they are part of the county leadership through service delivery,” he noted.

County assembly Speaker Hon. Charles Owino Likowa urged leaders to come up with well searched and articulated bills to be passed at the assembly to enhance smooth running of activities at the county government.
