Three children abandoned with their 65 year old grandmother in Mutalia Matungulu subcounty of Machakos county have finally enrolled in Koma Ranch primary school through the help of the area MP, Stephen Mule.

His team while visiting the home said that the community had been concerned about the three children out of five who were being denied their right to education.

Paul Kimeu one of the facilitators said that the grandmother who does menial jobs was left with the children with the young one being seven months old.

“We received a distress call from the area Nyumba Kumi and was informed that an old woman was taking care of five children and three among them were school going kids who were not attending anymore,” he said.

Due to her old age and number of children she could not afford to take the children to school.

The three children with their grandmother at a uniform shop.

“She couldn’t afford to pay for uniform or even stationery needed by the children. We took the initiative and bought everything for the children and took them to school,” he said.

The trio, who could not hide their joy joined pre-primary one, grade two and grade three class respectively.

“The mother eloped and is currently not known where she is. The old woman is overwhelmed by the responsibility of taking care of the dive children and herself,” he added.

Mr. Kimeu disclosed that there were people tasked with the responsibility of ensuring the three children are kept in school.

“We want the children to have a strong education background and ensure they don’t miss school or drop out for whatever reason,” he noted.
