Those involved in Finland, Canada scholarships fiasco should carry their cross, Ruto says

scholarship fiasco

President William Ruto has put on notice those responsible for the Finland and Canada scholarship millions fiasco in Uasin Gishu County.

He has asked them to return the money as soon as possible.

Over the past few months, the scandal has made headlines in the media with revelations that parents lost Millions of shillings hoping to get scholarships for their children to study abroad.

Speaking in Uasin Gishu on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, during the devolution conference, Ruto asked those involved with the scholarship funds to initiate a refund.

“It’s embarrassing for anyone to steal money meant for the education of young people in Uasin Gishu,” he said.

“Those involved should carry their own cross.”

“If there is anyone who misused the money collected from parents let him organize to pay back,” Ruto said

He said investigations were ongoing.

The President also promised that the government will assist students who were duped through a scholarship scheme that will enable them to study within the country.

This comes shortly after the affected parents led by Edward Kiptek called off the planned protests scheduled to coincide with the devolution conference.

Uasin Gishu senator Jackson Mandago is among three other county officials who have been in the spotlight over the scholarship scandal.

The other officials include; Joseph Kipkemoi Maritim, Meshak Rono, and Joshua Kipkemoi Lelei.
