Detectives in Kirinyaga County have arrested a third suspect linked to the kidnapping of a primary school headteacher earlier last month.
The arrest marks a major breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into the abduction of Gatuto Primary School headteacher, Joshua Kiarai, who was violently taken and held against his will on November 4, 2025.
The suspect, identified as John Kinyua Muriuki, had managed to evade detectives for weeks.
According to police, Kinyua had been “slipping through the shadows,” making it difficult for officers to track him down.
However, a coordinated operation led to his capture, bringing the total number of arrested suspects to three.
The first two suspects were arraigned before the Gichugu Law Courts on November 25, 2025, where they faced charges related to kidnapping and unlawful confinement.

Investigators believe the suspects acted together in the planning and execution of the abduction.
Police say Kinyua is currently being processed and is expected to appear in court once the necessary procedures are completed.
Detectives have also revealed that a fourth suspect is still on the run, but they remain confident that the fugitive will soon be apprehended as the net tightens.
The kidnapping incident has sparked concern among teachers and residents in the region, prompting calls for improved security around learning institutions.
Authorities have assured the public that efforts to enhance safety and bring all perpetrators to justice are underway.
