Kitui County urgently requires 400 secondary school teachers to end understaffing in schools in the region, Education News has reliably learnt.
Speaking during the official closing ceremony of their KESSHA Annual conference (2024) held at Maasai Beach Hotel in Mombasa recently, Kitui KESSHA chairperson Jackline Kusunza said understaffing curtailed the smooth curriculum delivery.
She further noted that the situation is bent to defeat teachers’ efforts to offer quality education.
The KESSHA Boss urged the government to employ more teachers and deploy them to the region to enhance effective teaching and learning, attributing the dismal performance to lack of teachers.
“Kitui County principals are focused towards posting sterling results in the 2024 KCSE, but that can only be possible if more teachers are posted,” she added.
She also asked education stakeholders in the county to come forward and equip schools with essential physical learning facilities to enable students to learn under a healthy environment.
When contacted for comments as regards the teacher shortage in the county, Kitui Teachers Service Commission (TSC) County Director Margaret Kamau said that the Commission is aware of the shortage and that they will soon address the problem.
