The United Kingdom government has pledged a substantial donation of Ksh. 800 million to enhance the quality of education in Kenya.

This generous commitment was solidified through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed during the official visit of King Charles and Queen Qamila, who are currently on a four-day state visit to Kenya.

The MOU, inked at the Eastlands Library during the royal visit, was signed by Kenya’s Education Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu, and the UK Foreign Secretary, James Cleverly.

This agreement aims to fortify the enduring educational partnership between the two nations and chart a course for future collaboration in the field of education.

The British High Commission emphasized that this MOU signifies a shared dedication to addressing some of the most pressing challenges that persist in the education sector.

Spanning a five-year period from October 31, 2023, to October 31, 2028, this commitment further strengthens the historical educational ties between the two countries.

Since 2015, the UK has played a pivotal role in supporting over half a million marginalized girls and disabled children in Kenya to access high-quality education.

During their state visit, King Charles and Queen Qamila were warmly welcomed by President William Ruto, with formal ceremonies and military salutes.

The visit also paved the way for discussions on enhancing trade, investments, and collaboration in strategic areas such as defense, security, education, environmental conservation, and climate change, underscoring the rich and enduring partnership between Kenya and the United Kingdom.
