The KMI Computer Science 2023 scholarship programme is now open

By Vostine Ratemo

Knowledge Media Institute (KMI) has advertised summer scholarships for black students for year 2023.

The scholarship programme will run for 9 weeks beginning 1st July to 31st August 2023.

The Institute has been providing financial support to black students since 2020 to enable them experiment in cutting-edge fields to advance their expertise and help them provide solutions to current global challenges.

This comes as a result of under-representation of black people among visitors in KMI every summer especially among computer science post-doctoral students; and this year the institution is determined to improve representation and create greater awareness of computer science research.

On top of that, the students will receive a non-repayable bursary, mentoring, and support from researchers who work in the project spaces. In 2023, there will be three scholarships awarded, with each scholar set to get 2,700 Sterling Pounds (Ksh 432,471).

Those who wish to apply are required to meet the following terms; must be aged between 16 to 20 years on 31st May 2023, have interest in technology and sufficient time available during the summer, be an ordinary resident in the UK and be able to provide details of two referees whom the institution can contact if the applicant secures the scholarship.

All applications should be submitted to Miss Ortenz Rose by email at STEM-KMi-Scholarship@open.ac.uk by 28th April 2023 (11:59 pm).

KMi is a Computer Science Research & Development Lab that has been at the forefront of innovation since 1995, conducting research in computing, technologies for social and environmental good.
