The government to employ 2000 TVET trainers in 2024

The government will employ over 2,000 TVET trainers next year who will be posted to various institutions to cut the existing shortage, Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu has said.

Machogu said the government is keen to increase the number of trainers in TVET institutions to enable students get quality technical education.

In a speech read on his behalf by Principal Secretary (PS) in the State Department of Technical and Vocational Education (TVET) Dr Esther Muhoria during RVIST’s 17th graduation ceremony, the CS said TVET has contributed greatly to the economical development of the nation.

It was held at the institution’s main campus in Nakuru County.

“This year the government, through the Public Service Commission (PSC), has employed 1300 trainers, and we will employ over 2000 more next year to ensure we curb the shortage in our TVETs,” said Machogu.

The CS urged TVETs to regularly cooperate with various industries in Kenya and abroad to ensure trainees are well equipped with industrial skills, which will be useful to them after completing their studies.

Machogu said that currently the government is banking on the TVET sector to spur industrialization in Kenya, thus the need to ensure that they produce market-ready candidates.

He added that 60 of these institutions are implementing dual training, which has produced a positive impact as regards the job market.

The CS revealed that the government has distributed equipment to over 17 TVET institutions in the country.

“The government has continued to ensure TVETs effectively work through continuous heavy investment in infrastructural development and equipping the TVET institutions with modern equipment,” the speech read.
