Teso KIHBT to welcome new cohort of students

The Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) Rwatama in Teso North Sub County is set to welcome a new cohort of students on Monday, November 20, 2023.

Speaking on behalf of the MP Olu Kaunya during the burial of Tata Kiligona Amusolo Pekol (ILOTA) in Akiriamas village, Amukura, Teso, the Constituency Development Fund Manager, Richard Opagala said about 100 plant operators will start the third cohort of the course.

“Approximately 100 plant operators would comprise the third cohort, following the first group of 52 students in motorcycle driving and the second cohort of 65 students specializing in motor vehicles driving,” he stated.

He also added that the institute offers refresher and defensive driving courses.

The late Tata ILOTA, mother to retired primary school headteacher Dickson Mrade Pekol, was remembered as a devoted member of the Roman Catholic Church and a warm-hearted, sociable, and hardworking individual.

Mrade Pekol was acknowledged for his unwavering commitment to caring for Tata Amusolo after her husband’s demise in 1995.

Tata passed away due to lung cancer.

The Kenya National Union of Teachers Teso Branch Executive Secretary, Geoffrey Ekasiba, disclosed that the marking of KCPE exams would conclude soon, with results scheduled for release by November 30th, 2023.

Ekasiba advised parents to engage their children in household activities to prevent undesirable consequences such as unplanned pregnancies.

Addressing cultural concerns, Iteso Cultural Union Minister for Youth, Gabriel Etee, emphasized the importance of preserving traditions and urged the youth to support the cultural union.

Etee highlighted the decline of the Iteso language among the youth and encouraged parents to enroll their children in school to benefit from sponsorships in Ugandan and Kenyan universities.

Notably present at the event were former MCA Abiud Ochillang’ole, former Councillor of Malaba Town Council John Ikokony, and 2022 Malaba West MCA aspirant Enaga King, among others.
