Former champions Tenwek High School produced a spirited performance to dethrone holders Kaplong Boys High School 37-30 and clinch the boys’ basketball title during the Bomet County secondary school term one games finals held at Mulot Grounds.
Cheered by a passionate crowd that included their senior principal Mutali Chesebe, Tenwek displayed tactical discipline and resilience to reclaim the trophy they had lost to Kaplong in the last two consecutive finals.
The victory marked sweet revenge for the former champions, who controlled the tempo of the game and held their nerve in the closing minutes.
Coach Boniface Ombima lauded his players for their determination and teamwork, noting that the win was a result of months of focused training and belief in their ability to bounce back stronger.
In another major upset, little-known Mogoma Secondary School stunned favourites Tebeswet Secondary School 30-17 to lift the boys’ handball title. Having entered the tournament as underdogs, Mogoma defied expectations with an energetic display and solid defense to secure their first-ever county crown.
Mogoma head coach Mark Sang’, who also doubles as the school principal, praised his players for their fighting spirit.
He said the triumph was historic for the school and would serve as motivation as they prepare for the regional stage.

On the girls’ basketball front, Kaplong Girls successfully defended their title after beating Chebonei 33-21 in a tightly contested final.
Kaplong coach Gideon Kiprotich commended his squad for maintaining composure and executing their game plan effectively to retain the trophy.
In rugby 15s, Tenwek High School ended Longisa Boys’ remarkable 16-year dominance at the county level, edging them out 7-3 in a tense final.
The narrow victory saw Tenwek crowned new champions and signaled a shift in power in the county’s rugby scene.
Coach Allan Muliro described the win as a breakthrough moment for his team, emphasizing their defensive discipline and determination.
Meanwhile, in boys’ hockey, Kimulot Boys dethroned reigning champions Kiriba Day after a dramatic 3-2 penalty shootout win following a barren draw in regulation time.
In the girls’ hockey final, reigning champions Kapkesisio comfortably beat Motigo 3-0 in a well-officiated match overseen by umpire Festus Langat.
Kapkesisio coach Isaac Morusoi praised his team’s attacking strength while Motigo coach Kipngeno Mutai acknowledged the stiff competition and vowed to rebuild ahead of the next season.
