TechLit Africa in collaboration with Oradu Foundation and the Amagoro Primary School alumnae has installed a computer lab in Amagoro Primary School today that will benefit over 700 learners in the school.
Speaking before the commissioning of the lab, Dr. Sheran Amai Oradu, who was the chief guest, said the lab will revolutionalize digital literacy in the school.
“My scholarship sister Nelly Cheboi, also CNN Hero 2022, and her organization TechLit Africa, provided 28 macbook laptops for the lab as well as the curriculum for training,” she noted.
The lab commissioning started with a showcase of what the learners have learned so far, so parents are firsthand witnesses of this. They included python programming language, touch typing, and word formatting such as bolding, among others.
Dr. Oradu’s twin sister Emma Oradu-Oita said they joined Amagoro Primary in Standard 6, where she scored 556 marks in 1998 KCPE to earn a place at Kenya High, while Dr. Oradu scored 559 marks to join Alliance Girls High School.
Emma said she would like to see more alumnae support the programm and increase the number of computer labs to two, thanking one Gregory Odeke for his Ksh5000 donation to boost sustainability of the project, which stands at Ksh50,000 per month.
Emma’s mother Grace Amoit Oradu said she head the Oradu Foundation which gave massive support to vulnerable children, urging parents to support the computer lab programme.
Amagoro head teacher Ronald Orodi appreciated the Oradus for initiating the idea of a computer lab in the school.
“As you are aware, learning is moving digital where learners engage in books in the absence of teachers. The lab will enhance learning in our school,” he said, adding that the project had made a positive impact on the learners.
ACK Amagoro Archdeacon Ben Oriama said the gesture by the Oradus to equip Amagoro Primary with computers on their own expense was a sign of giving back to the community.
