Tears of joy as Talau JSS makes historic volleyball comeback in front of mammoth crowd

The volleyball match, played at Nasokol Girls Secondary School, drew a mammoth crowd of teachers, parents, education officers, and learners from across West Pokot County.

Exceptional skill, talent, and expertise were exhibited during the crowd-moving match that determined which team would advance to the Sub-County finals between Riting Junior Secondary School (JSS) and Talau JSS.

As the referee blew the final whistle, the scoreline was 2-0 in favour of Talau, as they never hid their joy by bursting into song and dance.

Their victory saw the surging crowd of parents and teachers erupt in cheers and applause in their support.

The coaches, Pauline Chebet and Jackline Koibei, were all cheerful as they congratulated their players with a gesture of affection and encouragement following the victory, which had not been seen in a decade.

The youthful players were all smiles, observing the jubilation with complete disbelief. Some were seen with streams of tears of joy rolling gently down their cheeks.

When asked what they did to seize victory, Jackline said that the coaching of learners was so thorough since it involved a combination of strong technical knowledge, effective communication and fostering a positive team culture.

On her side, Pauline stated that it was not easy to reach such a level,”We taught them the most fundamental skills which greatly assisted in developing real game strategies,building player confidence and promoting teamwork.

They intermittently explained that they triumphed over all other teams because they ensured that the players could easily execute the skills associated with the game of volleyball like serving,passing,setting attacking and even blocking.

“Another very critical aspect of positive play is sound footwork patterns,since they are very critical as far as efficient play is concerned,” they said.

They described that time and again,they have stressed on teaching the very basic strategies like offensive and defensive systems which includes, serving,receiving and transition plays.

In order to reach such unimaginable levels,we have created a supportive and encouraging atmosphere where all our players feel comfortable learning and taking instructions.

“We have encouraged effective communication between ourselves and the players which has immensely worked alot of magic in the team.This has further influenced proper communication in the court of play,” they said.

“We have encouraged unity a sense of unity and shared responsibility in the team.This has given a new impetus in each players contribution in the team,” they stated.

Speaking in justification,the schools principal,Isaac Kipchoge Sitienei explained that he had provided the team with all facilities which also includes build up matches with other top performing teams.

Kipchoge stated that he had personally opened up many opportunities to all players to specifically improve their skills and confidence,”This has indeed been a game changer in the schools sports arena,” he explained.
