More than 100 applicants for teaching posts who showed up for TSC interviews at St. Aquinas Secondary School- Buchangu in Navakholo Sub County, Kakamega County were disappointed after reportedly being turned away by Teachers Service Commission officials who claimed the exercise had been cancelled and the slots re-allocated to other schools.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) had advertised five teaching slots for qualified teachers with combinations in Mathematics/Chemistry teachers (2 slots), History/Kiswahili (1 slot), Business/Geography (1 slot) and History/CRE (1 slot).
A total of 102 applicants were shortlisted for the interview where 9 were shortlisted for Mathematics/Chemistry, History/CRE (58 applicants), History/Kiswahili (20 applicants) and Business/Geography (15 applicants).
TSC had advertised for 8,672 teaching positions across the Country to support the new Government 100 percent transition policy that has all primary school leavers enrolled into secondary schools.
.“Interviews which were being conducted by the Board of Management (BOM) had just started when officials from Kakamega County TSC office arrived here and stopped the exercise,” David Obwonya, an applicant claimed.
