Teaching fraternity, tea farmers mourning long serving Deputy Principal

The teaching fraternity, tea factory management and farmers in Kisii County are mourning the loss of the long serving high school Deputy Principal, Robert Kochi Meroka.

According to the wife of the departed teacher, Jane Meroka, her husband died on Sunday at Aghakan Hospital after a short illness.

Mrs. Meroka, while speaking to the media in the company of her only daughter, Rehema Moraa Meroka, eulogized her husband as a man who had a big heart.

She appealed to well-wishers to assist the family with funds to offset the hospital bill that had accumulated to Sh.1 million by the time of her husband’s death.

“My husband was a man of all people, we appeal to all of his friends to stand with us at this needful time,” she appealed.

Former Kisii County KNUT Executive Secretary Sam Nyaitmro and KUPPET counterpart Ben Nyaundi termed the late Meroka as a man who did great work during his time as a teacher.

Meroka was born 57 years ago at Nyamache Sub-county in Kisii.He was posted to Getuki Secondary School to teach both Kiswahili Language and Fasihi after qualifying to become a teacher.

He progressed with his teaching career and he was promoted into a Deputy Principal, a position he held for long time.

He was later transferred to Don Nosico Bombaba Secondary School, from where he changed career to serve tea farmers.

He was elected one of the Directors at Nyamache tea factory in 2021.

Nyamache tea factory Chairman Mr. James Omweno said that until his death, Meroka was an honest and disciplined Director who served farmers diligently.

The late teacher cum director is survived by his widow Jane Meroka and three children.
