Kenya Women Teachers Association (KEWOTA) Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Benta Opande, has asked Women teachers in the country join the organisation in large numbers to enable it to fight for their rights more effectively.

Speaking during the ongoing Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) Annual Conference in Mombasa, she stated that many female teachers in the country are suffering for no apparent reason but simply because they do not know their rights.

Opande however revealed that the organisation has so far managed to rescue school girls who had been married off and returned them to school to continue with their studies.

She added that KEWATO in collaboration with other education stakeholders in the country will ensure that the girl child education is fully protected.
