Teachers urged to nurture inquisitive minds and foster curiosity in learners

Eastern Region Director of Education Fredrick Kiiru has encouraged teachers to cultivate curiosity and an inquisitive mindset among learners.

Speaking during the official launch of the regional Kenya Science and Engineering Fair (KSEF) at Makueni Boys, Kiiru emphasized the importance of nurturing students’ interests in various fields.

“Don’t hesitate to answer their questions. Go beyond and conduct research when challenged by their inquiries. An inquisitive mind is always ready to learn,” Kiiru stated.

He further praised Makueni Boys, affirming its capability to host a national-level competition in the near future.

Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Executive Secretary Justus Kimeu urged judges to exercise fairness throughout the competition. He also mentioned that the union would engage with the employer to negotiate a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

“The government has allocated Ksh 18 billion, and we are optimistic that this will lead to better working conditions for teachers,” Kimeu noted.

Host Principal Francis Mutua pledged to ensure a smooth experience during the four-day event and called for swift consultation in case of any challenges.

The host science patron, Erastus Kimetu — who also serves as the Makueni County KUPPET Chairman — stressed the significance of collaboration and taking science seriously.

“Science shapes our lives. There is nothing in this world without science; I encourage students to embrace it wholeheartedly,” Kimetu said.
