Teachers threaten to ditch Saccos over persistent network failures

Frustrated by persistent system outages, teachers are threatening to withdraw their membership from Saccos that fail to provide reliable online services.

Saccos whose internet systems fail regularly have been put on notice by teachers who are members.

The saccos whose systems regularly fail have been told to up their game or risk being abandoned, especially by tutors who receive their monthly pay through them.

Speaking to Education News from different regions in western Kenya, the irritated teachers said that the saccos network failures often compel them to beg for money. Yet, their accounts are loaded,” said One Belinda, a teacher in Kakamega municipality, with a tone of irritation.

“Imagine receiving feedback that you can’t transact at that time. Do you have a biting emergency?”

The same case was reported among teachers’ SACCOs in the North Rift, South Rift, and Nyanza regions. The irritated teachers said that they regularly encounter network failures at the end of the month.

The issue has always forced them to travel to the Sacco halls to withdraw their money in person. “Why should I travel from Turkana to Eldoret or Kitale just because of a network error?” asked One Ekidor.

The tutors implored the management of the SACCOs to ensure that they upgraded to the latest network providers that can serve them without regular hitches. A group of the same teachers threatened to change their pay points if the anomaly is not sorted out.

“I am ready to move back to the Bank if this is not sorted out. It is quite inconveniencing”, commented Arwanja.
