After nearly five months of desperation, TSC has begun reimbursement for teachers who attended last December’s retooling exercise. So far, teachers from Nandi, Bungoma, and Nakuru counties have reported retooling white smoke.
The teachers who contacted Education News quickly pointed out that they were determined to visit various centres hosting upcoming exercises to demand their allowances. Through their intelligence, the Commission quickly moved to avert the embarrassment by releasing the funds as early as the evening of April 7.
Education News is privy to information that several Master trainers had begun showing indications of not participating in this holiday’s exercise, citing delays in last December’s reimbursement.
In another development, TSC has issued a circular indicating a change in training dates for the upcoming retooling.

In a circular signed by Director Teacher Professional Management Dr Mugwuku Nthamburi, the programme’s schedule has been altered to accommodate the upcoming Easter holidays on April 17-21 (Good Friday and Easter Monday.
This implies that Master trainers will be trained from 9 to 11 at the Kenya Institute of Special Education. From April 15 to 17, Training of Trainers (ToTs) will be held at county-selected venues.
The reports for ToTs will be compiled at the same venues(county-selected venues) on April 18. Finally, on April 19, ToTs will roll out sub-county and zonal training coordination.
TSC targets retooling over 19000 integrated Science intern teachers recruited by the end of 2024. This includes Special Needs Education (SNE) teachers on internships, who will be retooled differently at county-selected venues, unlike their regular colleagues.
The clamour for payment of the last exercise allowances is gradually subsiding, paving the way for a harmonious April’s retook across the country’s various regions.
Education News wishes the trainers and trainees of the upcoming retooling a fabulous exercise.
