Teachers who attended last April’s retooling exercise from some counties have come out to register their frustrations over delayed payments of their allowances.

This follows a revelation that a good number of their colleagues drawn from different counties received their payments as early as last week Friday.

“We can’t be working for different Teachers Service Commission. How comes our colleagues were paid last week and here we are trying to beg our county offices to consider paying us?”, asked an angry teacher from North Rift region.

The teacher went ahead to claim that their county always lags behind when it comes to giving teachers what is rightfully theirs.

The same frustrations were registered in one county in western where teachers are said to be calling sub county and county offices to inquire about the payment of the retooling allowances.

Education News is privy to information from some county accountants that lack of timely payment of the allowances was caused by unavailability of the county Directors who are said to have travelled to the coast for the ongoing Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) conference.

The enraged teachers are said to be wondering how their colleagues from neighboring counties have been paid despite their Directors attending the same conference in Mombasa.

“It depends on how pragmatic the county Director is in handling situations,” answered one accountant who spoke on condition of anonymity.

This being the last month of the financial year, teachers always are used to early payments from the commission. Already, June salaries have been paid as it is the tradition with June. Accountants from the affected counties are said to have implored upon the tutors to tone down up to next week when the Directors are expected to travel back from the warm beaches of Mombasa.
