The National Secretary of Kenya Teachers in Hardship and Arid Areas Welfare Association (KETHAWA) Wangonya Wangenye has asked over 1,283 teachers in Baringo South to immediately move to safer areas following a rise in insecurity in the area.

Wangenye noted that Kapindasum Primary School and Kapindasum secondary school was a beehive of gun shoot-out between bandits and security officers, thereby jeopardizing the security of teachers and learners.

He added that Teachers Service Commission (TSC) should not compel teachers working in these areas to continue working, bearing in mind that their security is at risk.

“If anything, teachers and learners from these areas require serious counseling due to traumatizing experiences witnessing such scaring gun battles,” Wangenye said.

Additionally, he mentioned that TSC should engage other stakeholders in the welfare of teachers and learners so that proper counseling free of intimidation can be administered.
