Teachers hail ex-Principal Ombiro for transforming education

Teachers and parents praise Albert Ombiro for transforming education through visionary leadership, mentorship, and innovation.

The immediate former Principal, Albert Ombiro, has been hailed by teachers and parents for his exemplary work in teaching and leadership as teachers celebrate their International Day.

Leaders across the country have sent many well-wishes and accolades. Among the leaders who appreciated the teachers by sending them messages of encouragement is the Kisii County Senator, Esther Okenyuri.

Speaking at Kisii town, Okenyuri said that teachers play a pivotal role in moulding and shaping the lives of learners from their formative years to adulthood.

“These are heroes and heroines who shape the mental and physical growth of people in all professions in every family,” she said.

Parents from St Peter’s Keberesi echoed her sentiments, as did Cardinal Otunga Mosocho in Kisii Central and St. Paul’s Gekano High School in Masaba North Subcounty, who praised the immediate former Principal, Albert Ombiro, for his exemplary work in teaching and leadership.

Speaking to Education News on the influence of Chief Principal Albert Ombiro in the education sector, they called on other educators to emulate him for the success of learners.

Who is this man, Albert Ombiro?

He is a dedicated educationist and administrator with a broader experience in the Country’s academic sector. Currently serving as an Education Attache to China, he plays a central role in shaping policies and improving international education relationships among Kenyan students and students from other countries.

Before his appointment to the International Education service docket, Ombiro had an illustrious career as a teacher and school administrator. His journey as a teacher began at Endereti Secondary School more than two decades ago in Kenyenya Subcounty, where he served as an assistant teacher. His leadership qualities and zeal for success earned him a promotion to Deputy Principal at Moteiribe High School in Bomachoge Borabu Constituency.

In 2006, he was elevated to Principal of St. Peter’s Keberesi High School, where he demonstrated exemplary Management in leadership and academic skills. He attracted the admiration of Principals from 45 secondary schools in the Subcounty, Leading Them to elect him as their branch chairman of the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA).

He was transferred to St Paul’s Gekano High School in 2019, where he improved the school’s performance by ensuring that more than 300 candidates who sat for the 2021 KCSE examination received direct entry grades to the University.

In 2022, he was transferred to Cardinal Otunga Mosocho National School, guiding the school to excel in both academics and sports, such as rugby, before he was elevated to his current position.

According to his immediate former Principal at Moteiribe Secondary School, Mr David Osoro, who is the Current Chair of the KESSHA, Kenyenya Branch Chairman Albert Ombiro has a passion for sports and community development.

During his tenure as Chairman of Principals of Kenyenya Subcounty, he spearheaded grassroots sports talent among the youth. He championed the establishment of St. Peter’s Keberesi Sports Academy, the only one of its kind in the region that consistently produces national athletics champions each year.

Among the former student trainees from the academy is Sergeant Lilian Odira of Kenya Prisons, the 2025 World 800 metres race medalist from Migori County.

In an exclusive interview with Education News, Ombiro revealed his philosophy and vision in life.

“I firmly believe in holistic education where academics, sports, and community engagement work hand in hand to nurture well-rounded youths as future pillars of the communities,” he said.

He expresses his earnest yearning for leadership that embraces innovation, discipline, and a deep commitment to uplifting education as the strongest tool to change the world.

Asked to confirm if he will vie for the Bomachoge Borabu Constituency Parliamentary seat, the soft-spoken but experienced educationist revealed that he will indeed be a candidate.

“I am ready to walk with our people and serve them better in 2027,” he said.
