Teachers flop in attempt for political seats

Several teachers in Kitui County were among the hundreds of aspiring candidates vying for various political seats in the just concluded 2022 general elections.

Emmah Kamene Kitemange, a retired teacher and former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Kitui Branch Women’s Representative was among six contenders for the Kitui County Women’s Representative seat where they were defeated by Dr. Irene M. Kasalu who was re-elected.

Another teacher, Joseph Muviwa Kasyula who is the immediate former Principal of Siakago Boys High School in Embu County was vying for the Kitui Central’s parliamentary seat where he and other candidates were trounced by Dr. Benson Makali Mulu who was defending the seat.

Before being transferred to the Siakago Boys High School, Mr Kasyula was the Principal of Mutitu Boys High School in the county.

In addition, David Mbisi, a former Head teacher at Mutukya Primary School and former KNUT Kitui Branch Assistant Executive Secretary was vying for the Miambani Assembly Ward MCA seat in Kitui Central Constituency but Alex Mutambu Nganga retained the seat.

Lastly, Onesmus Mwendwa Ngile, a former teacher at Kangungi Primary School in Kitui West District resigned to vie for the Kauwi Assembly Ward MCA seat but emerged third after Gabriel Mutunga took the day.
