Over 3,000 unionist teachers drawn from Yatta and Masinga sub-counties now want the Government to stop unilateral decision to transfer teachers outside their counties citing insecurity.
Speaking at Kithimani in Yatta, Machakos County during their Annual General Meeting, the teachers said the move by the former Education CS Fred Matiangi was ill advised and would cause serious family ripples.
Ali Abdi Hussein who is the National KNUT assistant treasurer said that the Government should form a special police force to protect the teachers, adding that the recent killings meted recently to their colleagues in Wajir was regrettable.
They also faulted the Government for withdrawing their medical cover allowances saying teachers and their families in the region are suffering and seeking the services of witch-doctors as there is no single Government facility where they could get medication.
Hussein challenged the former Education CS Fred Matiangi to now crack the whip as he did in the education sector to transform the security docket and ensure teachers are no longer endangered species.
The teachers have urged the Government to allow them work within their counties so that they can take care of their families.
