Teachers across the country are not at ease after the release of July salaries which is generating a heightened discussion among them, raising concern over the salary margin formula used in the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, (CBA) signed recently.
They are urgently asking both Teachers Service Commission, (TSC) and teacher Unions to reveal the content of the signed CBA to explain the percentage in salary increase.
Teachers are reported to be consulting accountants and mathematics guru’s after they failed to comprehend the algorithm that TSC applied in computing the percentages they agreed with their unions during the signing of 2025/29 CBA.
Already, teachers in various regions are reported to be engaging their unions for a clearer explanation on the contents of the signed CBA.
In some branches, word has it that, union officials have maintained a low profile for fear of being bombarded with questions that they do not have answers to.

TSC on the other hand has been asked to explain how 29% and 5% for lower and upper earners would result to Ksh1800 and Ksh330 that were received by some teachers in the just paid salaries.
“We have been taken for a ride once again by our unions”, said Henry Marende a teacher in Trans Nzoia County. Marende said with a percentage increase that the employer had promised him, he had planned to go for a top up on his running loan and secure a car.
Marende’s shattered hopes mirrors the agony most teachers are undergoing through after the July salary turn of events.
The discontent among the teachers is expected to affect the upcoming unions elections slated for next year. Already, KUPPET members are in election mood with aspirants crisscrossing teacher events selling their manifestos.
With dark cloud engulfing increments from the signed CBA, it is expected the incumbents will have a tall order in trying to recapture their seats. The same is brewing in KNUT where young teachers are feeling disenfranchised by the old guard.
