Teachers have appealed to parents to prepare well for the reopening of schools in January by using remaining period to look for fees.

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Bomet Branch Chairman Paul Sang observed that education is a basic right and no child should miss school whatsoever.

Speaking in Bomet town, the KNUT official warned against extravagance, urging parents to use the remaining period to look for school fees.

“Schools are opening in the next few days and i ask parents to prepare well. Parents should avoid extravagance and those who have not gotten fees should use the remaining period to get the fees,” he noted.

He appealed for stakeholders’ cooperation to help boost the education of the boy, whom he says has been neglected.

According to him, much focus has been directed to the girl child, with the boy being left on his own, a trend he described as worrying.

Sang rooted for equality, and further advised parents to closely monitor their children so as to prevent them from irresponsible behaviors.

“Much focus is now being directed to the girl child at the expense of the boy and as KNUT, we are concerned about this. Boys have been left on their own, a situation that has pushed them to crime and depression. I appeal for concerted efforts to address the problem,” added Sang.

Neglect of the boy child has been blamed for the rise in cases of depression and crime in the group, with KNUT vowing to promote equality in education.
